BONC Volunteers

BONC Volunteers put 1,685 hours into local trails in 2017!

On Thursday and Friday, I was given the opportunity to educate 16 students from the Sierra Academy of Expeditionary Learning about a variety of topics including:

  • Sustainable Trail Design and the underlying physics
  • Trail Etiquette
  • Land Management
  • Trail Maintenance
  • Sierra Academy of Expeditionary Learning

On Thursday we did a huge amount of brushing on Hoot to open sight lines and minimize user conflict. On Friday we did the same on Scotts Trail. BONC thanks NID for allowing us to use their land as a classroom.  In total, we did 140 hours of work.

While we are talking about Scotts and trail etiquette, we’d like to take the opportunity to remind people that the roadways and parking lots surrounding the Scotts Flat boat ramp and campgrounds have a 5 mph speed limit. Please limit your speed when going through the boat ramp parking lot! The recreation manager is concerned someone will be injured and we want to maintain access to these trails.

Here’s the graph of the hours you put into the trails this year and where the hours were concentrated.
